Grovers Rural Supplies is the Trading Name of Grovers Rural Services Pty Ltd, which is the entity that has purchased the Skipton business of Hewitt and Whitty.
Charlie and his team started business in Skipton in 2015 with the explicit objective to build up a business to serve rural customers in the Skipton and surrounding areas. Charlie started from rented premises in the Skipton township, then acquired one acre of land at the western end of town. In 2016 Charlie built a new warehouse, retail and office building on the site on the corner of Montgomery Street and West Boundary Street where Grover Rural Supplies is based today. The site was carefully planned after review of a number of similar businesses and Charlie’s own experience from the past of what works and what does not. The site is securely fenced, landscaped with native trees and shrubs, with easy truck and B-Double access from both street frontages.
The warehouse is fitted with high level pallet racking, with secure storage for prescribed chemicals, hard floor for forklift operations, a perimeter road and a drive through bay for loading and unloading. At the front of the building there is a retail and office area for display of hardware and smaller items, and refrigerated storage for animal health products. The outside layout area provides secure space for large items and space for plenty of stock on hand and room for vehicles to operate.
The layout has worked well for Charlie and his team for 4 years now, and the quality of workmanship of local Ballarat builders and contractors is standing up well. New signs with our name and our new supplier AIRR are displayed on all four sides of the building.
Charlie Groves’ own experience, in addition to managing H&W Skipton for 5 years, includes one year as manager of Landmark Skipton, 9 years with Allflex in Queensland and Victoria at the time of introduction of the NLIS tag and identification system, 2 years with another rural supplies company in NT and Queensland, following his start in the rural supplies industry with Rodwells in Victoria. His education was at Ballarat Grammar and on leaving school, he undertook a trade qualification in the motor industry. Charlie has developed great skills in managing of business. He is people focused: with his own team, with customers and with all whom he meets. Charlie and Lizzie have a beautiful family of young children, Charlie is a volunteer member of the Hardies Hill CFA, and they are both active in the community.
Grovers is really proud to be locally owned, run by a team of Skipton and district enthusiasts and supported by the largest Australian-owned rural supplies and agricultural support services business, Elders Ltd , through their supplier team at Australian Independent Rural Retailers. Grovers will continue to trade with a number of your well-known suppliers of commodities, equipment and specialist items, and can through AIRR access an even larger range of competitively priced rural supplies.
